The n-3He Experiment at SNS : Commissioning

The experiment will be commissioned in the following steps:

1) The upstream beam profile is measured with the XY scanner.

2) The downstream profile is measured similarly.

A theodolite is aligned to cross hairs, positioned at the beam centroid upsteam and downstream from analysis of the beam scans.

commission_4.png
A fluxgate magnetometer is aligned along the beam axis with a V-block and used to shim the B-field parallel to the beam.

The B-field is mapped along the beamline and shimmed for uniformity.

commission_6.png
The target chamber is aligned to the beam axis using an autocollimator attachment to the theodolite.

The RF spin rotator is tuned using a polarized 3He spin filter.

The transverse asymmetry is measured using the NPDGamma coils for the B-field. Finally, PV physics data is taken using the solenoid for longitudinal polarization.
